Neurodevelopmental diversity (ND) encompasses diagnosis such as Autism, Asperger's, ADHD, Cognitive Disorders, and Learning Disabilities. Neurodevelopmental diversity and it's complexities require unique types of support throughout the lifespan. For children living with ND, typical parenting strategies just don't cut it. Often children with ND are wrongly labeled as defiant, or even lazy.
Target areas Deborah frequently works with include:
- Parent and Family Coaching to develop systems that support skill development and success;
Individual counseling/coaching on how to navigate academic, social, and personal challenge areas;
Psychological and Neuropsychological evaluation to determine specific areas of strength and challenge (in collaboration with a Licensed Clinical Psychologist);
Counsultation with schools, colleges, and universities to determine support plans for children, adolescents, and young adults living with ND.
It is critical to take a skills based approach to help children and teens learn the necessary skills to promote success and self-esteem. For young adults with ND the transition to independent living is even more challenging, although often possible with the right interventions. Specialized counseling support is critical to the success of anyone living with ND.
